Patnitop: A Serene Hill Resort

Pantnitop is a well-known hill resort, set on a lovely plateau at an altitude of 2024 meters. It offers beautiful picnic spots, peaceful hikes, and breathtaking views of the mountain landscape of the Chenab basin, all while being surrounded by densely covered trees. As the resort is blanketed in snow during the winter, skiing among other snow-related activities is possible. The white blanket of snow, combined with the breathtaking views of the Himalayas, makes it a haven for adventure enthusiasts and photographers. This is one of the best tourist spots in Jammu due to its natural beauty, climate, pine trees, and lush green environment.

Ban Ganga: A Sacred Stream

The Banganga is a major tributary of the river Chenab and passes through Katra. The river originates on the Shivalik range’s southern slope. Ban means ‘arrow’ and it is said that ‘Vaishno Devi’ is said to have formed the tributary with an arrow and taken a bath in it.

A Holy Dip

The river is considered sacred, and pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine often take a dip in its waters to purify themselves before commencing their journey. The riverbanks offer a peaceful setting for reflection and prayer.

Baba Dhansar: A Hidden Gem

This beautiful natural temple of Lord Shiva is around 15 kilometres from Katra. It has a beautiful waterfall that falls from a good height and has a dark blue hue. The place is relatively untouched and is known for its natural caves. Water droplets fall at a consistent rate all year on a naturally created shivling.

Shivratri Celebrations

During the Shivratri festival, a grand fair is held, attracting thousands of worshippers and nature lovers. The blend of divinity and untouched nature makes Baba Dhansar a must-visit spot near Katra.

Raghunath Temple: A Marvel of Architecture

Raghunath Temple, located in Jammu city, has seven shrines, each with its own ‘Shikhara’ (shikhara, a Sanskrit word meaning mountain top). A portrait of Maharana Ranbir Singh and an icon of Lord Hanuman adorn the temple’s main entrance. The architectural beauty of Raghunath Temple provides glimpses of Mughal masonry. The sculptures and arches, which are exceptionally beautiful, draw everyone’s attention. The surrounding enclosure of the temple has a library containing extremely scarce Sanskrit works and texts. That is why visitors come to this temple in large numbers; among them are people who came here to worship the deity and to receive the Lord’s blessings.

Sanasar: A Scenic Duo

Sanasar is a group of two small villages, Sana and Sar, situated in the Jammu region. These villages, named after small local lakes, are 20 kilometres west of Patnitop on National Highway 1A. The Shanta Ridge is a local mountain range. Nag Shank Pal is honoured in this 400-year-old shrine. The temple’s stones were not joined with mortar.

Tulian Lake: Nature’s Paradise

Tulian Lake is located 16 kilometres from Pahalgam at an elevation of around 3,353 meters. To get to the lake, though, you’ll have to embark on a long trip known as the Tulian Lake Trek, which includes several difficult hills.
